§ 9-8 PROCEDURE ON VIOLATIONS.
   (a)   In case of violations of the provisions of this chapter, a verbal notice thereof shall be immediately served by the director of public works or other building officer on the person in charge of, or responsible for, the work. Such verbal notice shall be followed by a written notice.
   (b)   If the verbal and written notices are respected and steps are promptly taken to correct the deviation observed, so as to conform to the provisions of this chapter, then the deviation observed shall not be deemed a willful violation thereof, nor be subject to any penalty provided in § 16-1.
   (c)   In the event that the work, or condition, continues in defiance of such verbal and written notices, or if the deviation is not promptly corrected, then the deviation shall be deemed a willful violation, and the building officer shall promptly stop the work until the provisions of this chapter are complied with.
   (d)   The building officer and other officers of the village are hereby authorized to use the police power of the village in such manner and to such extent as the character of the violation and the interests of public health and safety may demand in securing compliance with the provisions of this chapter.
