The owner, agent, lessee or other person in charge of any building in the City, upon a street to which street numbers have been assigned by the Building Commissioner, shall cause the proper street number of such building to be dispalyed on the fanlight or transom or door or entrance steps or gate, or at the nearest practical point to the entrance of such building, in such a manner, that the street number may at all times be plainly legible from the sidewalk in front of such building, provided however that so far as the purpose or intent of this section is concerned, the front shall be construed as the side of the building which faces the street on which the number of such building or premises on which such building is situated, have been alloted, and that the number shall be displayed on such side of such building or premises.
The house number heretofore assigned to each respective building by the Commissioner shall continue to bear the original assigned number, as it appears on the plat approved by the Commissioner. (Ord. 34-1952. Passed 3-24-52.)
