507.01 PURPOSE.
   These sections require that abortions be performed only by physicians operating in a place or facility where there is qualified supervision in obstetrics or surgery, and where equuipment, staff and facilities are provided to handle hemorrhage, shock, cardiac arrest and other emergencies, as well as to apply aseptic procedures. These sections further protect the health of the patient by providing that abortions performed on women pregnant twelve weeks or less may be performed on an ambulatory basis; that pregnancies of longer duration or those involving medical, surgical, gynecolgical or psychiatric conditions or complications occurring during or after the abortion, require in-patient facilities.
