Application for an excavation permit shall be made to the City Engineer on a form prepared by the City Engineer, and shall be issued only upon the payment of the fee hereinafter set forth, which payment shall be made to the City Treasurer and evidenced by a receipt given by the City Treasurer.

(A) Upon application for a sewer or water excavation permit, the following applicable fee shall be paid:
(1) | One-half permanent base street, including terrace | $300 |
(2) | One-half flexible base street, including terrace | $250 |
(3) | Terrace only (not to exceed ten feet in length) | $60 |
(4) | Terrace cuts over ten feet in length shall be, per foot of cut, an additional | $2.50 |
(5) | The above schedule is for cuts at right angles to the centerline of the street. On any cuts running obliquely or parallel to the street centerline the City Engineer shall compute the charge using the above schedule as a base for the charges. | |

(B) Each of the fees listed above shall be increased by $25 when the required permit is requested after the work for which the permit is required has begun.

SEWER EXCAVATIONS
(1990 Code, § 25-106)
(A) The permittee shall take appropriate measures to assure that during the performance of the excavation work traffic conditions as nearly normal as practicable shall be maintained at all times so as to cause as little inconvenience as possible to the occupants of the abutting property and to the general public. If more than one-half of the street is closed, special permission shall be obtained from the City Manager. The City Manager may permit the closing of streets to all traffic for a period of time prescribed by him or her and the permittee shall route and control traffic including its own vehicles as directed by the Police Department.
(B) In the case where the street or streets affected are a state route or routes, all rules and regulations, as promulgated by the state, concerning the street and the routing of traffic on state routes will apply; and shall be in addition to the regulations as directed by the city and the City Sanitary District.

The excavation work shall be performed and conducted so as not to interfere with access to fire stations and fire hydrants. Materials or obstructions shall not be placed within 15 feet of fireplugs. Passageways leading to fire escapes or firefighting equipment shall be kept free of piles of material or other obstruction.
