VEHICLE MARKING POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to set the guidelines under which town vehicles and equipment will be branded. In order for any government entity to cultivate lasting confidence within its constituencies it must build a unique and positive image of itself. This image is the entity's brand, the central defining image or idea of what it is and does. Vehicles are the most visible and often seen carriers of the town brand and logo. Therefore, the town's supervisors have developed the following vehicle marking policies.
(Ord. 2016-01, passed 2-8-2016)
(A) Vehicle decals are defined as a sticker, marking, license plate holder, front license plate, or any other emblem that is placed on a Town vehicle in any location.
(B) Permitted decals are town logos, department logos, public safety markings (e.g. emergency vehicle), department program logos (e. g. D. A. R. E.), professional organizations, and professional memorial programs (e. g. September 11, 2001).
(C) Decal location on vehicle is determined and approved by the department head.
(D) It is the department head's responsibility to ensure compliance with vehicle use policy guidelines found in § 36.136.
(E) No decal shall be placed on any Town vehicle not in compliance with vehicle use policy guidelines and approved by the department Head and Town Manager.
(F) No decals shall be removed from vehicles unless approved by the department head and the Town Manager.
(G) Any vehicle owned by the town and used by an employee will display a town decal except for those vehicles designated by the department head and approved by the Town Manager.
(H) Any proposed changes or variations from the pictorial examples shown in this policy shall be presented by the Supervisor of the Department to the Town Manager. After the Supervisor and the Town Manager concur on the proposed changes those changes shall be submitted to the Council for their review.
(I) Markings and logos shall not apply to undercover police vehicles, the Town Marshal and the Operations Chief Deputy Marshal if approved by the department head.
(Ord. 2016-01, passed 2-8-2016)
(A) Vehicles are frequently the most visible and often seen carriers of the town logo.
(B) Here are several examples how to treat the logo on a variety of vehicle styles. It is important to note that vehicle models may change but the location and application of the logo will be consistent.
(1) Only the logo, ID numbers and chevrons are to be placed on any town vehicles.
(2) On white vehicles the logo should be placed in full color on both front door panels. The logo should be no smaller than eight inches high and as large as possible. The logo must never be placed over any ridges in the door nor over the handle. The ID numbers should be placed on both front fenders and the back or tailgate of the vehicle as shown three inches high.
(3) With the scale, color and variety of so many vehicles, the first consideration is in identifying the size appropriate and visibly prominent area on which to place the logo. As with most heavy equipment, chances are the possibility of effectively utilizing the color version will be limited. For vehicle colors which are stronger in tone value, an entire white version of the logo is required. For colors which could be considered softer (in tone) a one color (black) application of the logo is required. If the base color will effectively support the two color version of the identity, then it should be considered before the use of black.
(4) The logo should be placed towards the front of the vehicle on the most prominent, flat, protruding surface.
(5) The logo should be no smaller than eight inches high and must never be placed over any ridges in the door nor over the handle.
