9-2-1: PLANNING AND ZONING CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL:
There is hereby established the office of planning and zoning code enforcement official, whose duties shall be to enforce the provisions of the zoning regulations. He shall be appointed by the mayor with the consent of a majority of all members of the board of trustees. He shall examine the premises for which permits have been issued and shall make necessary inspections to see that the provisions of the law are complied with. He shall enforce all village ordinances relating to the construction, alteration, repair, removal, demolition, equipment, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of buildings and structures and setting of trailers (mobile homes), except as may otherwise be provided. He shall, when requested by the mayor or board of trustees, or the planning and zoning commission, or where the interests of the village so require, make investigations in connection with matters referred to in the zoning regulations, and make reports thereon to the appropriate entity. He shall communicate and cooperate with the state building inspectors. He shall keep careful and comprehensive records of applications, of permits issued, of inspections made, of reports rendered and of notices or orders issued, and make reports to the planning and zoning commission as requested. If a violation exists, he shall notify the responsible party or parties, by certified mail, return receipt requested, of the nature of the violation and what procedures shall be taken to correct same. Copies of the notice shall be distributed to the mayor and to the members of the planning and zoning commission. If no response is received in ten (10) days, or if immediate action is necessary, the code enforcement official shall prepare an order, for the mayor's signature, directing the police department to issue to the violator a nontraffic citation.
