These residential zoning districts are established to provide for residential neighborhoods that are in harmony with the natural features of the land, economic conditions, and the needs of Canton residents, both present and future.
MA - Municipal Agricultural District: The purpose of the MA Municipal Agriculture District is to provide areas for agricultural uses while being incorporated into an urban environment.
R-1 - Single-Family Residential District: The R-1 District is established to accommodate low density (four (4) houses/acre), single-family residential dwellings in areas that are provided with City sewer and water facilities.
R-1a - Single-Family Residential District: The purpose of the R-1a District is to encourage the establishment of medium-low (six (6) houses/acre), single-family residential uses.
R-1b - Single-Family Residential District: The purpose of the R-1b District is to encourage the establishment of single-family residential uses at approximately three (3) houses/acre.
R-1c - Single-Family Residential District: The purpose of the R-1c District is to encourage the establishment of single-family residential uses at approximately two (2) houses/acre.
R-1d - Single-Family Residential District: The purpose of the R-1d District is to encourage the establishment of single-family residential uses at one (1) house/acre.
R-2 - Two-Family Residential District: The purpose of the R-2 District is to provide for two-family residences at a medium density of twelve (12) units/acre.
R-3 - Garden and Townhouse Apartment District: The purpose of the R-3 District is to encourage the establishment of garden and townhouse apartment dwellings at a medium-high density of eighteen (18) units per acre.
R-4 - Multi-Family Residential District: The purpose of the R-4 District is to provide for high density (fifty-eight (58) units/acre), multiple-family dwelling structures, and to generally serve as zones of transition between nonresidential districts and lower density single and two-family districts.
