In buildings having basements or cellars, an additional smoke detector shall be installed in the basement or cellar in a location approved by the Fire Prevention Bureau.
(b) Smoke detectors installed in existing buildings in conformity with this chapter may be battery operated so long as the detector is inspected at least once every six months by the owner or agent of the property to insure that the battery is maintained in good working order.
(c) If, upon inspection, the Fire Prevention Bureau determines that battery operated smoke detectors installed in conformity with subsection (b) hereof, are inoperable, defective or not being maintained in good working order, then the Fire Prevention Bureau may order the property owner or his agent to install smoke detectors with primary power by alternating current, noncord connected in compliance with the applicable section of the National Fire Protection Association's approved standards.
