(a) A full-time employee who exhausts all accrued sick leave may receive continuing disability benefits for non-occupational disabilities as follows:
(1) The employee shall apply according to administrative regulations established by Human Resources. The application must include medical verification.
(2) There is a 5-day waiting period before receiving continuing disability benefits.
(3) The City may deny the application of an employee who has been disciplined for absenteeism or abusing sick leave within 12 months of the application.
(b) If the appointing authority grants the application, the City shall pay the employee at 60% of their regular rate of pay as follows:

6 months -1 year | 4 weeks |
1 year - 5 years | 15 weeks |
5 years -15 years | 26 weeks |
15 years and over | 30 weeks |
(c) The maximum benefit an employee may receive during their employment with the City is 30 weeks. For example, an employee with more than 15 years of service and who previously used four (4) weeks is only eligible to receive an additional 26 weeks of disability.
(d) An employee on disability leave receives medical, prescription, vision, dental, and life insurance. The employee does not accrue sick leave, vacation, or longevity.
