(A) The members of the auxiliary police unit shall be a resident of the state, and may not be under the age of 21 years at the time of their appointment and such other requirements as provided by rules adopted under § 33.24.
(B) All members of the auxiliary police unit, prior to their appointment by the Mayor, shall have been awarded a certificate by the executive director of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council, attesting to the appointee’s satisfactory completion of an approved state, county or municipal police basic training program in accordance with R.C. § 109.77.
(C) Every member, prior to his or her appointment by the Mayor, shall have passed a physical examination given by a licensed physician not more than 60 days prior to receiving his or her appointment, showing that he or she meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position to which he or she is to be appointed.

The Chief of Police shall be the commanding officer of the auxiliary police unit and shall have control of the assignment, training, stationing and the direction of work of such unit. The auxiliary police unit will have all police powers, but shall perform only such police duties as assigned by the Chief of Police and shall act only when in the prescribed uniform or partial uniform. Such auxiliary member shall obey the chain of command of the Police Department.

The Mayor is authorized to prescribe the type of uniform or part thereof which shall be worn by members of the auxiliary police unit. The Chief of Police shall prescribe the time and place such uniform or portion thereof shall be worn. Each member of the auxiliary police unit shall be furnished one uniform by the village at the villager’s expense.

(A) The compensation for the village auxiliary police officers shall be paid on an hourly basis rather than a shift basis as set forth by the Village Council from time to time.
(B) Members of the auxiliary police unit shall not receive any benefits of employment, including, but not limited to, health and welfare benefits, life insurance benefits, contribution to the public employee retirement system, paid sick leave, vacation time, vacation pay, paid holidays or personal time.

The village shall contract with the Industrial Commission of Ohio as authorized by law for worker’s compensation coverage for the auxiliary police officers in case of injury, disease or death of such an officer while engaged in activities called for by his or her position.

This subchapter is for the protection of public peace, health, property, safety and general welfare, and neither the village nor any agent or representative of the village, an officer appointed under this subchapter, or any individual, firm, partnership, corporation, or the receiver or trustee or any agent thereof, who in good faith executes any executive order or rule promulgated pursuant to this subchapter, shall be liable for injury or damage sustained as a direct or proximate result of such action.
