CHAPTER 244
Division of Police
   EDITOR'S NOTE: The City enters into agreements with the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Labor Council, on behalf of full-time patrolmen, dispatchers and sergeants. Copies of these agreements are available, at cost, from the Clerk of Council.
   Ordinance 72-00, passed October 10, 2000, authorized the City to enter into Mutual Aid Contracts with other municipalities in Lorain County, with the Lorain County Board of County Commissioners, and with the Lorain County Sheriff's Department. Copies of this ordinance and of the agreements may be obtained, at cost, from the Clerk of Council.

244.01 ESTABLISHMENT; COMPOSITION.
   There is hereby established in and for the City a Division of Police within the Department of Public Safety. The Division shall consist of a Chief of Police and such other officers and personnel as determined from time to time by Council.
244.02 CIVIL DEFENSE AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT.
   (a)   The Police Chief is hereby authorized to organize a Civil Defense Auxiliary Police Unit in the City to operate under the supervision and jurisdiction of the Police Chief and subject to the control of the Police Chief and Council.
   (b)   As one of the conditions of this authority, there shall be no compensation paid to any of the members of the Civil Defense Auxiliary Police Unit, unless the same is approved by Council by proper legislation.
   (c)   It is further a condition of this authority that the Civil Defense Auxiliary Police Unit shall operate in the City until dissolved or discontinued by action of Council.

244.03 RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT.
   (a)   Any person applying for a position as a full-time or part-time police officer shall, within 12 months of their appointment, reside within Lorain County or one of its adjoining counties and shall continue to reside within said geographical area while serving as a member of the Division of Police.

   (b)   Any person appointed as a police officer must continue to reside within the area designated in subsection (a) hereof during the continuation of such person's employment as a police officer.
