(A) Whenever a fire shall occur in the town, it shall be the duty of the Fire Chief or his or her designee to report immediately to the place of the fire and take active charge of the fighting thereof.
(B) It shall in those cases be the duty of the members of the Fire Department to report immediately to the scene of the fire and participate in the fighting thereof in accordance with the instructions of the Fire Chief or his or her assistant.
(C) The members of the Fire Department may also provide medical responder service and vehicle extraction as directed in the Department standard operating guidelines.

The Board of Commissioners hereby accepts and endorses the provisions of G.S. §§ 69-25.1 to 69-25.16, inclusive, pertaining to the establishment and operation of a Rural Fire Department in the town area, and directs that the Fire Chief and the Fire Department cooperate in the valid operations of the Rural Fire Department to the extent that cooperation does not interfere with firefighting and fire protection within the corporate limits of the town.
