§ 33.01 MEMBERSHIP.

   Members of the Fire Department shall be selected on a voluntary basis by the Fire Chief, subject to approval of the Town Manager, and shall be paid the fees as shall be fixed from time to time by the Board of Commissioners.

§ 33.02 DUTY OF CHIEF AND FIREFIGHTERS IN CASE OF FIRE.

   (A)   Whenever a fire shall occur in the town, it shall be the duty of the Fire Chief or his or her designee to report immediately to the place of the fire and take active charge of the fighting thereof.

   (B)   It shall in those cases be the duty of the members of the Fire Department to report immediately to the scene of the fire and participate in the fighting thereof in accordance with the instructions of the Fire Chief or his or her assistant.

   (C)   The members of the Fire Department may also provide medical responder service and vehicle extraction as directed in the Department standard operating guidelines.

§ 33.03 STATE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.

   The Board of Commissioners hereby accepts and endorses the provisions of G.S. §§ 58-80-1 et seq., inclusive, pertaining to the establishment and operation of the State Volunteer Fire Department.

§ 33.04 RURAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS.

   The Board of Commissioners hereby accepts and endorses the provisions of G.S. §§ 69-25.1 to 69-25.16, inclusive, pertaining to the establishment and operation of a Rural Fire Department in the town area, and directs that the Fire Chief and the Fire Department cooperate in the valid operations of the Rural Fire Department to the extent that cooperation does not interfere with firefighting and fire protection within the corporate limits of the town.

§ 33.05 STATE MANDATED FIRE INSPECTIONS.

   The Fire Chief shall be responsible for implementation and administration of the current North Carolina Fire Prevention Code. The inspection schedule shall be followed in accordance with the requirements of the current North Carolina Fire Prevention Code.
