(a) The normal work day of Department of Public Service employees shall not exceed eight working hours. When schedules require employees to work more than eight hours in any one day, employees shall be paid at the regular hourly wage rate as set forth in the current compensation ordinance.

(b) The normal work week of the Department employees other than the Director shall not exceed forty working hours. Such normal work week shall consist of five working days from Sunday through Saturday; any hours worked by Department employees in excess of forty hours shall be compensated for at a rate which shall be one and one-half times the regular hourly rate for such Department employee; provided however that, at the discretion of the Director, whenever any employee of the Department shall have worked in excess of forty hours during any normal work week the Director, in lieu of overtime compensation, may provide such employee with compensatory time off up to forty hours per calendar year and all compensatory time off authorized by this section shall be used during the calendar year in which it is earned.
