(A) In each case of construction of a new commercial building or parking lot, trees shall be planted within the tree preservation zones or within the street yard and shall be maintained and replaced as necessary to ensure compliance with the minimum number of trees applicable to the building site based upon the following formula:

(B) A credit toward the tree planting requirements of this section shall be given for the preservation of existing trees. The credit shall be granted based upon the following schedule:
Existing Tree Caliper (Inches) | Credit (Number of Trees) |
Minimum 4 inches through 6 inches | 2 trees |
More than 6 inches but less than 12 inches | 3 trees |
More than 12 inches | 4 trees |
(C) Each tree planted or preserved in accordance with this section must be at least six feet in initial height. Each tree planted, or preserved for credit in accordance with this section shall be either class I or class II as defined by division (E) of this section.
(D) Tree planting requirements near overhead power lines shall be as follows:
(1) Any new required or for credit tree planting shall maintain a minimum distance from overhead power lines according to the tree’s mature height as follows:
(a) Large tree: mature height 40 feet plus planted a minium 30 feet from overhead line.
(b) Medium trees: mature height 25-40 feet planted a minimum 20 feet from overhead line.
(c) Small trees: mature height maximum 25 feet planted under to within 20 feet of overhead lines.
(2) Only trees appearing in division (E) of this section as class I or class II trees with the “P” designation shall be planted under or within 20 feet of overhead power lines.
