The Fire Department officer in command or any fire fighter designated by him may exercise the powers and authority of a police officer in directing traffic at the scene of any fire, or where the Fire Department has responded to an emergency call, for so long as the Fire Department equipment is on the scene in the absence of or in assisting the Police Department.
