Pursuant to the provisions of and as required by Article 3 of the Illinois Pension Code, ILCS Ch. 40, Act 5, §§ 3-101 et seq., for municipalities with a population of 5,000 or more but less than 500,000 inhabitants, a Police Pension Fund is established for the benefit of police officers of the Police Department and their surviving spouses, children and certain other dependents, as provided in the aforesaid Illinois Pension Code.
