Before entering upon the duties of the City Clerk, such person shall take and subscribe the oath or affirmation required by the Illinois Constitution and file the oath or affirmation in the office of the City Clerk, and the person shall also execute a bond with sureties to be approved by the City Council in the penal sum as established by resolution or ordinance, conditioned upon the faithful performance of the duties of the office, according to law and the ordinances of the city.
