2-1-1: APPOINTMENT; TERM:
There is hereby created a Commission to be known and designated as the Zoning Commission of the Town, which Commission shall consist of five (5) members to be appointed by the Mayor, one of whom shall be a member of the Town Council, and the other four (4) may or may not be members of the Town Council, at the discretion of the Mayor, but must be residents of the Town. On the taking effect of this Chapter, the Mayor shall appoint one member of the Commission to hold office for one year, and two (2) to hold office for two (2) years, and two (2) to hold office for three (3) years, and thereafter as each such term expires, the Mayor shall appoint a Commissioner for the term of three (3) years, and until his successor is appointed. Any Commissioner may be discharged from office at any time on the request of the Mayor, and the vote of a majority of the Town Council. (1965 Code § 2-2-1)
2-1-2: MEETINGS:
The Commission shall, when there is business to transact, hold a meeting at least once a month, or more often as may be necessary to fulfill the duties of the Commission. (1965 Code § 2-2-2)
2-1-3: ORGANIZATION:
The Zoning Commission shall adopt such rules and regulations as it may deem necessary to carry into effect the provisions and purposes of this Chapter. It shall hold such meetings and meet at such places from time to time and have such hearings as the Commission or a majority thereof may determine. At the first meeting of the Commission after the effective date hereof, the Commission shall elect one of their number chairman, and thereafter on May 1 of each year, the Commission shall meet and organize by electing a member to serve as chairman for one year. 2-1-4: DUTIES:
The Commission shall recommend the boundaries of the various districts and appropriate regulations to be enforced. It shall make a preliminary report and hold public hearings thereon before submitting any final report to the Town Council. The Town Council shall not hold any public hearings or take action until it has received the final report of the Commission. (1965 Code § 2-2-4)
2-1-5: DUTIES OF CLERK:
The Town Clerk shall be ex officio Clerk of the Zoning Commission, and as such shall attend all meetings of the Commission. He shall keep the records and files of the Zoning Commission and shall inform it of the filing of all applications for permits or any other matters with which the Commission may be concerned, and shall notify the members when there is business to be attended to. He shall perform such additional duties of a clerical nature as the Zoning Commission may require. (1965 Code § 2-2-5; amd. 1999 Code)
