In mercantile occupancies hereafter erected or altered, or in the event of a change of tenancy in mercantile occupancies, an approved automatic sprinkler system shall be installed and maintained in all storage rooms exceeding 100 square feet in area.
(Ord. 1989-75, passed 4-17-1989)
Approved automatic sprinkler systems may be supplied from the domestic water system, provided the domestic water system is designed to adequately support the design flow of the largest number of sprinklers in any one of the enclosed areas. When supplied by the domestic water system, the maximum number of sprinklers in any one enclosed room or area shall be 20, which number shall be capable of totally protecting the room or area.
(Ord. 1989-75, passed 4-17-1989)
A check valve shall be provided at the point where the suppression system piping is connected to the domestic water piping, to prevent contamination of the domestic water supply. A shut-off valve may be permitted if precautions are taken to ensure that no one may unknowingly close such valve and render the system inoperative.
