Pursuant to Article VI, § 1, of the Charter, the Fire Department shall consist of not more than one full-time Fire Chief, one full-time Assistant Fire Chief, one full-time department head Secretary, a combination of 16 full-time Battalion Chiefs and Lieutenants and 42 full-time firefighters. Such personnel shall be appointed by the Mayor pursuant to the provisions of the Charter and subject to the rules of the Civil Service Commission, but appointments of new members of the Department shall not be made without prior approval of the Safety and Public Properties Committee and the Finance Committee of Council.
