There shall be designated upon the streets or portions of streets in the parking meter zone, by lines or markings painted upon the curb or street adjacent to each parking meter, the parking space for which the meter is to be used and each vehicle parked adjacent to any parking meter shall be parked within the lines or markings. No vehicle, other than a motor vehicle, shall be parked therein, and no motor vehicle shall be parked across any such line or marking, or parked in such a position that it is not entirely within the space designated by such lines or markings.
