8-1-2: DEFINITIONS:
ACCESSORY USE, BUILDING OR STRUCTURE: A use, building or structure on the same lot with, and of a nature customarily incidental and subordinate to, the principal use, building or structure.
BASEMENT OR CELLAR: A story partly underground with at least one- half (1/2) of its height below the average level of the adjoining ground.
BOARDING AND ROOMING HOUSE: Any dwelling in which persons are housed or lodged with or without meals, and without separate kitchen facilities.
BUILDING: Any structure having a roof supported by columns or by walls and intended for the shelter, housing or enclosure of persons, animals or chattels.
DWELLING UNIT: A building or portion thereof designed or used exclusively as the living quarters for one family.
ESSENTIAL SERVICES: The erection, construction, alteration or maintenance by public utilities or municipal departments of underground surface or overhead gas, communication, electrical, steam, fuel or water transmission or distribution systems, collections, supply or disposal systems, including towers, poles, wires, mains, drains, sewers, pipes, conduits, cables, fire alarm and police call boxes, traffic signals, hydrants and similar accessories in connection therewith, but not including buildings which are necessary for the furnishing of adequate service by such utility or municipal departments for the general public health, safety, convenience or welfare.
GRADE ESTABLISHED: The elevation of the centerline of the streets as officially established by the village.
LOT OF RECORD: A lot which is shown on the records of the county register of deeds.
MOTEL OR AUTO COURT: A group of attached or detached buildings containing individual living or sleeping units where a garage is attached or a parking space is conveniently located to each unit all for the temporary use by automobile tourists or transients.
NONCONFORMING USE, BUILDING OR STRUCTURE: A use, building or structure existing at the time of the effective date hereof, and which does not conform to the zoning regulations of the village.
PARKING SPACE: The area required for parking one automobile which, in this title, is held to be an area ten feet (10') wide and eighteen feet (18') long, not including passageways.
PLAT: A map of a subdivision.
RESIDENCE: A building designed or used exclusively as permanent living quarters.
ROW DWELLING: A building consisting of three (3) or more attached one-family dwellings not more than two and one-half (21/2) stories in height.
STRUCTURE: Anything constructed or erected which requires permanent location on the ground or attachment to something having such location.
YARD: A required open space on the same lot with a building or structure.
YARD, FRONT: A yard extending across the full width of the lot and lying between the front line of the lot and the nearest line of the building.
YARD, REAR: A yard extending across the full width of the lot and lying between the rear line of the lot and the nearest line of the principal building.
YARD, SIDE: A yard extending from the front yard to the rear yard, extending between the building and side lot line. Any line not a rear line or a front line shall be deemed a side line. (1968 Code ch. 12)
