The Chief of Fire is authorized to establish fire lanes upon public or private property within the City upon finding that the following conditions exist:
(a) A fire lane is necessary for safeguarding life and property from hazards, explosions and the use and occupancy of buildings, structures and adjacent property; or
(b) A fire lane is incident to a residential, retail, commercial, manufacturing, industrial or other use, where it can be reasonably expected that the public will assemble in sufficient numbers and their motor vehicles, if not controlled, will interfere with the operation of fire fighting equipment and personnel and the egress of occupants in the case of fire.

(a) Fire lanes shall have a minimum width of 18 feet or as reasonably determined by the Fire Chief as necessary to permit access and operation of firefighting equipment and personnel and the egress of occupants.
(b) The markings shall be placed and maintained by the property owner or occupant in accordance with the color and design as prescribed by the Fire Chief. All designated fire lane signs or markings shall be maintained in a clean and legible condition at all times by the property owner or occupant and replaced when necessary by the owner or occupant to ensure adequate visibility. Fire lane signs shall be marked with permanent lettering and indicate the following: NO PARKING - FIRE LANE and having a minimum dimension of 12 inches wide by 18 inches high and having red letters on a white reflective background.
Exception: unless in accordance with the color and design as prescribed by the Fire Chief.
