(a) All paramedics who are assigned by the Chief of the Parma Fire Department (Chief) to serve as medical support to the SWAT Team shall be permitted to carry a sidearm/firearm while making entries with the SWAT tactical officers and during callouts.
(b) The Police Department, through its Chief of Police, shall be responsible for the issuance of a departmental firearm to those SWAT medics who successfully complete all training requirements as set forth by ordinance.
(c) Upon selection as a SWAT medic, and prior to the issuance of a Police Department-assigned firearm, the member shall attend and pass firearms qualification training as provided by the Parma Police Department (PPD) and pursuant to PPD guidelines.
(d) Upon selection as a SWAT medic, and prior to the issuance of a Police Department-assigned firearm, the member shall complete a use of force training pursuant to Police Department guidelines.
(e) Upon selection as a SWAT medic, and prior to the issuance of a Police Department-assigned firearm, the member shall complete field training with a police officer pursuant to Police Department guidelines.
(f) All members of the SWAT Medic Team shall be required to attend and pass firearms qualification testing on an annual basis.
(g) The members of the SWAT Medic Team shall only be permitted to carry their department-issued firearms while making entries with the SWAT Team tactical officers and during callouts.
