1-6-2: ELECTIVE OFFICIALS; NOMINATING PROCEDURE:
   A.   Nominating Method: All candidates for elective municipal offices shall be nominated under the provisions of Iowa Code chapter 45, as amended. (Ord. 66, 8-12-1981)
   B.   Nominations By Petition: Nominations for elective municipal offices of the city may be made by filing a valid petition pursuant to the provisions of Iowa Code section 376.4. (Ord. 66, 8-12-1981; amd. 2015 Code)
   C.   Adding Name By Petition: The name of a candidate placed upon the ballot by any other method than by petition shall not be added by petition for the same office.
   D.   Preparation Of Petition: Each petitioning voter shall add to his signature, his residence address, and the date of signing. Before filing said petition, there shall be endorsed thereon or attached thereto the affidavit of at least one of the signers of said petition, which affidavit or affidavits shall show:
      1.   The name and residence including street and number, if any, of said nominee, and the office to which he is nominated.
      2.   That each of the signers are qualified voters of the state and entitled to vote for such nominee for such office.
      3.   That each of the petitioners voluntarily signed said petition. Such a petition when so verified shall be known as a nomination paper.
   E.   Filing; Presumption; Withdraws; Objections: The time and place of filing nomination petitions, the presumption of the validity thereof, the right of a candidate so nominated to withdraw and the effect of such withdraw, and the right to object to the legal sufficiency of such petitions, or to the eligibility of the candidate, shall be governed by the appropriate provisions of state law relating to nominations by nonparty political organizations.
