During any period when the Mayor shall be absent or unable for any cause to perform his/her duties, the President of Council shall be the Acting Mayor and during such period shall have the same powers, except the power of veto, and perform the same duties as the Mayor. He/she shall also continue as a member of Council with all the powers and duties of a member of Council. In case the office of Mayor shall become vacant, the President of Council shall thereupon become Mayor and his/her office as a member of Council shall become vacant. Subject to the provisions of this Charter, he/she shall serve as Mayor for the unexpired term.
