8-3-5: ABANDONING SEWERS AND CONNECTIONS:
Sewer line discontinuation or abandonment within the city shall meet the following rules and requirements:
   A.   Notify City Of Plan For Sealing:
      1.   When sewer service is discontinued or abandoned within the city, regardless of the reason, the owner of the property shall immediately notify the proper officials concerning the plan for sealing the existing connection. Sealing is required to prevent inflow, damage, harm or other adverse effects to the city sanitary sewer system. (Ord. 2006-03-01, 3-13-2006)
      2.   Sealing of the sewer service line shall be accomplished by a licensed Oklahoma plumbing contractor in accordance with all city codes or regulations, state codes or regulations and the international plumbing code. Installation, replacement or repair must be approved by the Okemah utilities authority inspector or his designee as to design and installation. (Ord. 2006-03-01, 3-13-2006; amd. 2007 Code)
   B.   Inspection: The plan referred to in subsection A of this section can be temporary or permanent but must define the time and method of sealing this connection and provide the Okemah utilities authority with ample notification for inspection of the abandonment to assure that a proper seal is accomplished.
   C.   Temporary Abandonment: If the abandonment is to be temporary, the owner shall provide a permanent method of identifying and locating the abandoned service point to the satisfaction of the Okemah utilities authority.
   D.   Permanent Abandonment: If the abandonment is permanent, the owner must accomplish the seal at the point of connection with the city sewer main in such a manner as to assure that the city sewer main is not adversely affected. Installation, replacement or repair must be approved by the Okemah utilities authority inspector or his designee as to design and installation. (Ord. 2006-03-01, 3-13-2006)
