ARTICLE VIII
DIRECTOR OF LAW
(a)   APPOINTMENT; COMPENSATION.
   The Director of Law shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of a majority of the members of Council. His or her compensation shall be fixed by Council ordinance. (11-5-68; 11-4-97)
(b)   QUALIFICATIONS.
   The Director of Law shall be an attorney-at-law duly admitted to the practice of law before the Supreme Court and other courts of the State of Ohio and shall have been engaged in the actual practice of law for a minimum of five (5) years and shall have at least two (2) years of experience in the field of municipal law.

(c)   TERM.
   The Director of Law shall serve for a term which shall be concurrent with the term of the Mayor, and until his or her successor is appointed and qualified.

(d)   REMOVAL.
   The Director of Law may be removed with the concurrence of two-thirds (2/3) of the members of the Council.

(e)   DUTIES.
   The Director of Law shall serve the Mayor, the administrative officers and departments, Council, officers and boards of the Municipality as legal counsel and attorney, and shall represent the Municipality in all proceedings in court or before any administrative body. He or she shall act as the prosecuting attorney before the Mayor or upon appeal from the decision of the Mayor. He or she shall perform all other duties now or hereafter imposed upon solicitors in cities by the laws of Ohio unless otherwise provided by ordinance of the Council and such other duties as may be required by this charter. He or she shall perform other duties as the Council or the Mayor may impose upon him or her consistent with his or her office.
