880.02 CITY SEALER OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES.
   (a)   Appointment. The Mayor shall appoint, subject to the confirmation of Council, a City Sealer of Weights and Measures who shall hold office for the term of two years next succeeding the date of his appointment and until his successor is duly appointed and qualified.

   (b)   Meaning of "City Sealer." As used in this chapter "City Sealer" means the City Sealer of Weights and Measures appointed pursuant to subsection (a) hereof and any deputy or assistant of the City Sealer who is duly authorized to perform the duties of such officer.

   (c)   Duties. It shall be the duty of the City Sealer and he is hereby authorized and required, at least once a year, to test all weights, measures, scales, beams, steelyards, platform scales and other machinery or appliances, utensils or receptacles used for weighing commodities to be bought or sold within the City at the several places where the same are used, when practical to do so, or at his office or place of business. If he finds the same to be correct, according to the City standards, he shall seal and mark the same either with a stamp or seal or by pasting a card thereon, as he may deem proper. The character of letters and figures to be stamped or sealed thereon shall be "N. S. " meaning thereby "Newark Standard," and the date or year of stamping or sealing.
