This council requires that the general municipal elections scheduled to occur in November 2005 will not be held so that elections may be held in even-numbered years, and that commencing with the general municipal elections to occur during 2006, the general municipal elections for the city shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November in each even-numbered year.

A. Those elected municipal officers of the city whose terms of office would have, prior to the adoption of this chapter, expired following the November 2007 general municipal election shall, instead, continue in their offices until the day of the November 2008 general municipal election of the city, and until their successors are elected and qualified.
B. In order to broaden the opportunities for public service and to assure that elected officials of government are responsive to the citizens of the government, no elected official of the City of Murrieta or any other political subdivision of the City of Murrieta shall serve more than two (2) consecutive terms in office.
C. For the purposes of this section, terms are considered consecutive if they are at least four (4) years apart, A term shall be shall be defined as four (4) years.

A. Pursuant to subsection (b) of Section 36502 of the California Government Code, the term limitations imposed by Section 1.20.020, as adopted by the voters on November 2, 2010, shall apply prospectively only. Said limitations shall apply to terms that were elected on November 2, 2010.
B. For purposes of applying Section 1.20.020, terms are considered consecutive unless they are at least four (4) years apart.
C. Section 1.20.020 became effective on December 17, 2010.
