6-1-7: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF INVESTIGATOR:

Under the direct supervision of the captain, the investigator shall perform investigations as assigned and prepare and file appropriate reports. In addition to the duties as investigator, the investigator shall perform the regular duties of a sworn officer. In the absence of a sergeant, the investigator will assume the duties of the sergeant. 6-1-8: SERVING PROCESS:

No sworn police officer, other than the chief of police, shall serve any process, except on command of the chief of police. (Ord. 982, 6-4-1990)

6-1-9: SERVE AS WITNESS; FEE:

Every sworn officer shall appear as witness whenever necessary in a prosecution for a violation of any village ordinance or of any state or federal law. No such officer shall retain any witness fee for service as a witness in any action or suit to which the village is a party or in which his testimony is based on the performance of his duties as an officer of the police department. Any fees for such services shall be turned over to the chief of police who shall deposit them with the village clerk. (Ord. 982, 6-4-1990)

6-1-10: TRAINING; USE OF SEIZED WEAPONS:

The chief of police is hereby authorized to request that any weapons seized during a criminal investigation, which weapons would otherwise be destroyed in accordance with applicable law, be turned over to the village police department to be used for training or operational purposes. The request should be made to the appropriate prosecuting attorney to permit said attorney to move the court for an appropriate order directing that the weapons be turned over to the village police department rather than destroyed. The determination as to which such weapons would be useful to the village police department shall be left to the sole discretion of the chief of police. (Ord. 1499, 8-3-2009)

6-1-11: RULES AND REGULATIONS:

Departmental rules and regulations promulgated by the chief of police shall be binding upon all department employees. The chief of police shall have the authority to discipline any members of the police department. (Ord. 982, 6-4-1990)

6-1A-1: APPOINTMENT AND TERMINATION; QUALIFICATIONS AND FINGERPRINTING:

The village president and board of trustees are hereby authorized to appoint not to exceed thirty (30) auxiliary police officers. Prior to appointment, all proposed auxiliary police officers shall be fingerprinted, and their fingerprints shall be checked with the federal bureau of investigation, Washington, D.C., for any possible criminal record. No person shall be appointed as an auxiliary police officer if he or she has been convicted of a felony or other crime involving moral turpitude. The appointment of any or all auxiliary police officers may be terminated by the president and board of trustees. (Ord. 1410, 11-6-2006)
