(a) If, on the effective date of this section (Ordinance 1982-21, passed February 23, 1982), there are employees employed in the classification of firefighter, such employees shall conitnue to be employed in such classification until their employment is terminated with the City. All employees hired after the effective date of this section (Ordinance 1982-21, passed February 23, 1982) shall be classified and employed as firefighter/paramedic. For the purposes of satisfying the authorized number of employees set forth in Section 129.01, firefighter positions continued under this section shall count as firefighter/paramedics.
(b) Each new employee of the Division of Fire hired after the effective date of this section shall be hired as a firefighter/paramedic.
(1) Each firefighter/paramedic position shall require that all employees satisfactorily complete a probationary period of thirty-six months prior to permanent appointment.
(2) Each newly hired employee must satisfactorily complete all training required for certification as a paramedic and become certified by the Ohio Board of Regents in addition to all training required for the position of firefighter, in order to satisfactorily complete the probationary period and become eligible for a permanent appointment.
(3) Each newly hired employee shall be required to maintain a valid Board of Regents certification as a paramedic as a condition of continued employment with the City.
(4) Failure to comply with this section shall constitute immediate grounds for removal (dismissal) from employment with the Division of Fire and the City. (Ord. 1982-21. Passed 2-23-82.)
