Floors, walls, ceilings, and other elements and components required to develop a fire resistance rating shall be maintained so that the respective fire resistance rating of the enclosure, separation, or construction is preserved. Penetrations of fire rated assemblies shall be protected and maintained in accordance with the applicable building codes. Garage separation from the dwelling unit, shall be provided as required by the applicable building code.
