If the party distraining any animals shall fail to deliver them or the certificate of appraisement to owners of the animals, if known, a copy of the certificate of appraisement within twenty four (24) hours after he receives the same, or to deposit the same in the Post Office, as provided in this chapter, he shall not be entitled to recover damages under the provisions of this chapter.
