A. The director of public works shall be responsible for all matters relating to construction, management, maintenance and operation of the physical properties of the city.
B. He shall supervise all engineering services for the department and for such other departments of the city as may from time to time require such services. He shall supervise the city inspectors who shall issue all permits for and inspect the work involved in the construction of sewers and water services, sidewalks, curb cuts and street cuts. He shall inspect all work done under the provisions of the electrical, plumbing and building codes of the city and inspect all premises, including structures and appurtenances thereon for safety features.
C. The director of public works shall supervise the construction, operation and maintenance of the city water distribution and sewerage systems. He shall supervise the operation and maintenance of all city parks and cemeteries. He shall supervise the construction, installation, repairing and maintenance of all facilities of the fire and police signal systems, traffic-control signals and other electrically operated signals but excluding the police radio system. He shall supervise the operation of the municipal garage and shall maintain and provide for city uses all automotive equipment owned by the city other than that used by the fire department.
D. The director of public works shall supervise the collection of garbage and rubbish, operate the city dump and be responsible for the clearing of snow and clean improved streets. He shall supervise the maintenance of and provide for adequate drainage on all streets, sidewalks and bridges. (Prior code § 2-6-3 (part))
