A. The classification plan is a way of making "equal pay for equal work" a firm city policy. Where there is an important similarity of duties performed and responsibilities assumed, the classification plan ensures that the same employee qualifications shall be required and the same pay schedules shall be applied.
B. The classification plan is used: (1) as a guide in recruiting and examining applicants for city employment; (2) in determining pay ranges for various types of work; (3) in describing career ladders and employee development programs; (4) in budgeting payroll costs; and (5) in providing a common terminology for all city employees and officials and the general public.
