(A) The process of planning, mapping and addressing the county shall be directed by the 911 Board and the 911 Executive Director or their designee.
(B) For the purpose of this chapter, the term “the county” shall exclude all property within the city limits of Stanford.
(1) The 911 Board may alter the name of any existing or newly established street at any time if deemed necessary.
(2) New street names shall not be the same as or relatively similar to street names already assigned within the county. Confusing or unusual street names spellings shall not be permitted. Private streets with more than two dwellings shall be named.
(3) Structures must have frontage or an entrance to the road on which their address is assigned. Vanity addresses that do not meet the addressing criteria are unacceptable.
(4) Preliminary subdivisions, plats and site development for review, shall have the proposed street name, identified for each street. Street address numbers shall be assigned by the 911 Board or its designee.
(5) All streets must have signs displaying the name of said street at each intersection.
(6) All signs shall conform to uniform traffic control guidelines.
(7) A uniform system of numbering properties and building is hereby adopted. All property or parcels of land within the limits of the county shall be identified by reference to the uniform numbering system. Buildings which house multi-family dwelling units, multiple offices or businesses, shall have one address for each principal entrance and a unit, apartment or suite number to identify each separate unit related to the principal entrance address (ex., 410 Maple Ave. Apt b). Street numbers shall be uniformly assigned as indicated by the county’s uniform address system. The U.S. postal service address standards will be followed. The buildings will be numbered following guidelines for number sequence assignment and directional considerations that are used in the uniform addressing system.
(8) The use of reflective numbers for addressing purposes is required. The numbers shall be a minimum of three inches in height and located two feet off the main road, close to the driveway of the house. The numbers can be located on the house or structure as long as they are visible and legible from the street. The owner/occupant must post their assigned address number in a manner as to be legible and distinguishable from the road on which the property is located.
(9) No utility company operating in the county shall furnish its utility services to any new structure or mobile home, including a mobile home that is moved from one location to another, until it has been issued a valid address. A new structure is defined as a commercial building, house or apartment newly constructed, being occupied by the applicant for the first time and requiring installation to obtain utility service. The subscriber will be required to provide proof that an address notification form has been obtained or that an address has been issued.
(10) Addresses can be obtained by visiting the 911 center or by calling them on the telephone.
(11) If the structure is not visible from the street or road on which it is located, and no mailbox is beside the driveway leading to the structure, a sign or number post shall be erected which will allow the numbers to be displayed either vertically or horizontally.
