(a) It shall be the duty of heads of families to report any epidemic or communicable diseases, when known by them to exist in their respective families, to the board of health, or to some member thereof, within twenty-four (24) hours from their knowledge of the existence of such disease.
(b) The board of health shall make a report to the state board of health at least once in every three (3) months as required by law:
(1) Of the character of the infectious, epidemic or communicable diseases prevailing in their jurisdiction.
(2) The number reported as afflicted with such disease.
(3) The action taken by the board in arresting the progress of such epidemics, and the visible effects of such action.
The board shall also make special reports when it deems it expedient or when required by the state board of health.
