The Department of Law shall be organized into a Division of Litigation, a Division of Corporate Counsel, and such other divisions as the Council may prescribe. The Department Commissioner and all Division Directors of said department shall be qualified attorneys-at-law.
The Division of Litigation shall be charged with the performance of all duties associated with the preparation and conduct of all legal proceedings in which the Merged Government, its departments, divisions, agencies, boards and commissions, may be a party.
The Division of Corporate Counsel shall be charged with the preparation of all contracts and other legal instruments of the Merged Government; and shall provide such legal advice and assistance as the Merged Government, its Council, executive departments, boards and commissions may require.
No division in the Department of Law shall engage in any activity which would infringe upon the powers and duties of the County Attorney as the prosecuting attorney for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. Nor shall any division in said department engage in any activity related to the powers and duties of the County Attorney as a legal officer under law for various state agencies.
