Council members elected from single-member districts shall serve for a term of two (2) years beginning on the first Monday in January following their election. In no case shall any member elected from a single-member district serve more than six (6) consecutive terms as a district council member. At-large council members shall serve a term of four (4) years beginning on the first Monday in the January following their election. In no case shall an at-large council member serve more than three (3) consecutive terms as an at-large council member.
All elections for members of the Council shall be conducted on a non-partisan basis in November of odd numbered years according to the rules and provisions set forth for elections in Article Twelve of this Charter.

Annotation—(1) This section was proposed for amendment by Ordinance No. 66-87; the amendment was adopted by the voters on November 3, 1987; and accordingly this section was amended effective January 1, 1988. A second amendment was proposed for this section by Ordinance No. 83-99 and it will be submitted to the voters on November 2, 1999.
(2) The year in which elections for council members are held was changed to even numbered years, pursuant to an amendment to the Kentucky Constitution proposed by 1992 Ky. Acts Ch. 168 and ratified by the voters on November 3, 1992.
