(a) The commission shall consist of nineteen (19) ex officio members and two (2) appointed members. The appointed members shall be appointed by the mayor, subject to confirmation by a majority of the urban county councilmembers. The appointed members of the commission shall be selected because of their demonstrated knowledge or interest in the area of criminal justice.
(b) The ex officio members shall consist of the commissioner of public safety, the chief justice of the Fayette circuit court, the chief justice of the Fayette district court, the commonwealth attorney, the county attorney, the public defender, the chief of police, the sheriff, the director of detention, the program administrator for juvenile detention, the commissioner of social services, the director of comprehensive care, the director of pre-trial services, the Fayette County circuit clerk, the director of adult probation, the director of the commonwealth probation and parole office, and the president of the Fayette County bar association. Additionally, the mayor shall appoint, subject to confirmation by a majority of the urban county councilmembers, a member of the Fayette county delegation to the Kentucky General Assembly and an urban county councilmember. The ex officio members may select a designee authorized to represent them on the commission. Both the appointed members and the ex officio members or their designees shall be voting members of the commission. The office of the mayor and the department of law shall provide staff and assistance to the commission as needed. Commission members shall receive no compensation for their services.
