Sec. 2-189. - Created.
(a)   A commission is hereby created which shall be known as the "Senior Services Commission."
(b)   The Commission is established for the purpose of providing leadership for community efforts, in both the public and private sectors, towards improving the availability, access and effectiveness of services which are appropriate and necessary to protect and enhance the quality of life of older citizens and to strengthen their ability to continue as full participants in the community. The carrying out of this purpose will entail functions such as evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of existing provisions and services in relation to the needs of older persons; identifying gaps and aspects which are in need of attention; identifying options and formulating approaches to the development and improvement of needed services for the purpose of providing guidance and direction to both public and private efforts; communicating to the public its actions and conclusions and in other ways stimulating community awareness and response necessary for coherent action on needed measures and steps; and supporting and responding to issues or problems of finances, organization, social services, education, housing, employment, leisure time activity, health and health-related services, transportation and other activities as they affect older citizens.
