(a) The reinforcement shall consist of flat sheets of specially manufactured steel fabrics for use in concrete street and road construction. The fabric reinforcement shall have an effective weight of not less than forty-two (42) pounds per one hundred (100) square feet and shall be equal to the Kentucky State Highway Standard 6X12—66-80 wire mesh. The main members of the fabric shall be spaced not more than six (6) inches apart, and the secondary members shall be placed not more than twelve (12) inches apart.
(b) The fabric shall be placed in flat sheets of a length equal to four (4) inches less than the width of the paving section, unless otherwise directed by the urban county engineer.
(c) All reinforcing material shall be free from rust and scale and shall be placed as directed by the urban county engineer. Immediately after the lower portion of the concrete has been placed and leveled-off sufficiently to permit the placing of a section of reinforcement fabric, it shall be placed in an accurate and workmanlike manner. The upper portion of the concrete shall be placed over the reinforcing and struck off, allowing sufficient space to provide proper lap for the next succeeding sheet of reinforcement. The procedure shall be carried on in an orderly and uninterrupted manner so as to insure a homogeneous and solid mass of concrete. Kentucky State Standard steel center strips or joints or their equal with half-inch round steel bars four (4) feet in length at five-foot intervals shall be placed as shown upon the plans or as directed by the urban county engineer.
