(a) There is hereby established a body that shall be known as the Glencoe Sustainability Task Force ("GSTF").
(b) It shall be the intent and purpose of the GSTF to be a recommending body with the following goals:
(1) To promote the conservation of natural resources and the environment;
(2) To encourage environmentally sound and economically viable practices for the maintenance of buildings, landscape, and structures in residential, commercial, and public areas of the village; and
(3) To serve as a resource to the Village Board and the community through environmental awareness programs and initiatives.
(c) The GSTF's duties shall consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
(1) Sponsor awareness programs and pilot projects that encourage the public to develop environmental sustainability measures that enhance health and safety, reduce the consumption of energy and fossil fuels, conserve water, reduce hazardous and solid waste, and reduce air pollution emissions;
(2) Reinforce alliances with sustainability organizations in order to learn from, collaborate with, and share information;
(3) Explore grants and alternative funding to support the goals of the GSTF, including but not limited to energy efficiency and cycling/walking transit network improvements;
(4) Encourage collaboration and resource sharing between local organizations, businesses, schools, and other agencies to partner in sustainability initiatives that improve efficiencies;
(5) Encourage multi-agency initiatives to link local and regional bike/pedestrian paths;
(6) Provide reviews of the Village Code, when directed, to remain current with green building technologies and initiatives, making recommendations for potential changes;
(7) Actively maintain and update the established sustainability portion on the village website;
(8) Engage and participate in various studies as directed by the Village Board; and
(9) Perform such other duties and functions as may be requested by the Village Board.
