§ 2-91 POWERS AND DUTIES OF MEMBERS GENERALLY.
   (a)   It shall be the duty of the members of the department of public safety to enforce all of the provisions of this code and other ordinances of the village and all statutes and laws effective in the village; to preserve order and prevent infractions of the law and to arrest violators thereof; to mitigate the results and render aid in the case of accident or disaster; to prevent and extinguish accidental or destructive fires, and to perform such other duties in the preservation of life and property as may be assigned.
   (b)   Every member of the department is hereby declared to be a conservator of the peace.
   (c)   All members of the department shall be authorized to serve writs, summonses and other processes.
   (d)   Each member of the department shall have all the responsibility, authority and liability prescribed by statute or ordinance for police officers or firefighters; provided, however, that this provision shall not, from and after March 1, 1982, be construed to disqualify members of the department from being considered as "full-time police officers" or "full-time firefighters" for purposes of the application of Ill. Rev. Stat. ch. 24, § 10-2.1-26.
