There is hereby created the office of director of public safety, an administrative office of the village. The director of public safety is and shall serve as the chief of police and fire chief of the village. The director of public safety shall be appointed by the village manager and shall serve until such time as he or she resigns or is removed or discharged by the village manager; provided, however, that no such removal or discharge shall become effective unless confirmed by a majority of the corporate authorities in accordance with the provisions of Ill. Rev. Stat. ch. 24, § 10-2.1-4.
