There is hereby created a department of public safety, an administrative department of the village. The department of public safety shall consist of a director of public safety, two deputy chiefs of public safety and such other members and non-sworn employees as may be authorized by the board of trustees. For the purpose of applying the provisions of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Act, 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-1 et seq., the department of public safety shall be considered a regularly-constituted police department and a regularly constituted fire department.
