§ 1. VILLAGE DESIGNATED A SCHOOL DISTRICT; POWERS OF COUNCIL WITH REGARD TO SCHOOLS GENERALLY.
   The territory included within the corporate limits and all additions to said village is hereby made a school district for school purposes, and the council shall be ex-officio school directors thereof, and shall have the supervision and control of public schools therein; and shall have power to appoint a superintendent of schools; to purchase and hold real estate for school purposes; to build and keep in repair school houses; to establish and maintain schools; to levy and collect all taxes for school purposes voted for by the legal voters of the village upon the taxable property within the corporate limits and to do and perform all things that school directors may do under the general school laws of this state, not inconsistent with this act.
