§ 4. APPOINTMENT, ETC., OF OFFICERS AND AGENTS.
   To appoint a clerk, who shall be clerk of the council and of the corporation, treasurer, policemen, and such other officers and agents, as the council may deem necessary, to carry this act and the ordinances made pursuant thereof into full effect; to prescribe their duties; to fix their compensation and to remove any appointee from office; to require all officers and agents so appointed to take an oath of office and file the same with the clerk and to give bonds for the faithful performance of their duties to be approved by the council and in such penalty as the council may direct; all such bonds to be given to the corporation by its corporate name; to examine at any time the official bonds of the officers and agents of this corporation and if found insufficient, to require new bonds, and upon such officer or agent failing to furnish such new bond satisfactory to the council, the council shall declare his place vacant.
